The Dig
In Flanders, doing digs, even on aircraft sites, is prohibited without formal license from the Flemish Government. The license can only be awarded to an experienced archaeologist. The project team received full support from renowned battlefield archaeologist Simon Verdegem and the company he works for (Ruben Willaert BVBA), and five more archaeologists (including his collegue Maarten Bracke).
An excavator, kindly provided by D'heer started peeling off the soil. Soon the impact crater of Gelbe 13 became evident. After all the necessary measurements were logged with GPS, the remains of the wreckage were lifted out of the crater and sorted out. It became evident Gelbe 13 was revealing all of its secrets, hidden for 72 years. |
